NAIRR Pilot

The National AI Research Resource pilot offers competitive allocations of AI computing, data and software to US researchers.

Is it right for you?

A good fit

  • AI research that needs more, or different, accelerators than campus offers
  • Projects that can describe their need in a short proposal
  • Testing and benchmarking before a larger request

Not a fit

  • Work that must start immediately; requests are reviewed
  • Sensitive data not permitted by the providing system
  • General computing that is not AI research
Not sure? Describe your work in a short consultation request and the team will suggest options. Suggestions are guidance; the service terms decide what is provided.

What it is

The National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot is a federal program, led by the National Science Foundation with partner agencies and companies. It connects US researchers to AI computing, datasets, models and software. Resources are awarded through calls for proposals, and the available systems, tracks and allocation sizes change between calls.

Cost

UCR does not recharge for NAIRR Pilot allocations. They are awarded competitively by the program, and awards depend on its review and available capacity.

How to get started

Read the current opportunities on the NAIRR Pilot portal. KB008 describes how UCR researchers have used it. Research Computing can help you benchmark on campus systems and prepare the technical part of a request. Contact us.
